Deepest Depths · Player Classes
Pick your place in the deep.
Six classes, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, signature ability, gear and tag.
Four build up your island, two are made for PvP. None of them is best at everything,
so the strongest islands are ones where members pick different classes.

−10 m · The basics
How classes work
- One active class at a time. Only your active class's strengths and weaknesses apply to you.
- Switch whenever you like, for free, from
/classes. You can't switch mid-fight.
- Every class levels separately. Switching never loses progress, but only your active class earns XP.
- Weaknesses are real and stay the same from level 1. Your strengths are what grow as you level.
- Island classes are great at one job and worse at another, so co-op islands do best when members mix classes.
PvP classes give up island boosts completely in return for combat power.

Levels and tiers
Each class goes from level 1 to 50. You earn XP by doing your class's job:
farming, mining, fishing, hunting mobs, or beating other players. Challenges give big chunks of XP on top.
Your strengths get a little stronger every level, and every ten levels you reach a new tier.
INovice1–9Your class's strengths and Tier I gear. The signature ability unlocks at level 5.
IIAdept10–19Tier II gear, a stronger ability and a bonus perk.
IIIExpert20–29Tier III gear and a stronger ability.
IVMaster30–39Tier IV gear, a stronger ability and a second bonus perk.
VLegend40–50Tier V gear, and your class's capstone perk at level 50.
Trials guard every tier
At levels 9, 19, 29 and 39 you have to pass your class's Trial, a short set of class tasks, before you can
move into the next tier. Nothing is wasted: XP you earn while the Trial is open is saved and added
as soon as you pass.

−3,000 m · Gear
Class gear and the Abyssal Forge
Every class has its own armor set and signature tool in five tiers, from chainmail-level up to
netherite-level. You make them at the Abyssal Forge in /classes.
- Materials drop as you play. Each class has a common and a rare material that drop while
that class is active. Challenges and Trials give them too.
- Upgrade, don't replace. Tier I is forged from materials. Each tier after that is made from the
tier below plus more materials, so nothing gets thrown away.
- Trade with other classes. Tier IV and V pieces also need a rare material from a different class.
- Your gear is yours. It's bound to you, you keep it when you die, and nobody else can wear it.
- It only works for its class. When that class isn't active, or you haven't reached the gear's tier, it works like plain iron.
- Full set bonus: wear all four armor pieces of your active class for stronger class strengths and a particle trail.
- Repairs are done at the Forge with common materials.
| Class | Common material | Rare material |
| Tidewarden | Coral Fragment | Living Coral |
| Ventsmith | Vent Slag | Magma Core |
| Lanternfish | Glowscale | Lumen Pearl |
| Wreckdiver | Brass Scrap | Sunken Relic |
| Krakenborn | Kraken Ink | Kraken Beak |
| Siren | Siren Scale | Echo Pearl |
In fights between players, island-class armor protects like iron at most, so the PvP classes stay on top in combat.
